Research suggests children, especially those who struggle with it, can be nervous and uncomfortable when reading aloud in a classroom environment.
The Paws and Read Scheme allows these children to read to a therapy dog, as they are non-judgemental, attentive and perfect listeners.
Therapy Dogs Nationwide has specially assessed dogs that will assist with a schools reading programme to help those pupils who are struggling. The calming effect and non judgemental approach can often significantly help improve the reading ability of participants and can also have a general calming effect.
